Getting There: The nearest airport to Silver City is Grant County Airport (IATA: SVC), just a short drive from downtown. You can also fly into Albuquerque International Airport (IATA: ABQ) or El Paso International Airport (IATA: ELP), both of which are not to far from Silver City.

We decided to drive from Denver, as we wanted to explore other areas along the way such as White Sands National Park, Carlsbad Caverns National Park and a few others. While the journey was a bit lengthy, we enjoy road trips, so it didn’t bother us at all.

Where to Stay: we stayed in this Adorable Uptown View House in Silver City. The house was cozy and provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It’s conveniently located near restaurants and outdoor activities, making it easy to explore the area. The neighborhood was quiet and welcoming. I would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a relaxing and well-located place to stay in Silver City.

What to Do:

We went to Silver City for their annual Fiesta Latina festival that usually held in early June. ¡Fiesta Latina! is organized by Western New Mexico University to celebrate and preserve New Mexico’s Mexican heritage, customs, and traditions. This four-day outdoor festival on the beautiful Silver City campus features a marketplace with traditional folk art from over 50 artisans across Mexico, live Latin music and dance performances, delicious food and drinks, kids’ activities, craft workshops, films, demonstrations, and more. I highly recommend adding this event to your bucket list for next year—it’s one of the best events we’ve attended in a long time! They also have a Chocolate Festival , which looked really tempting.

Visit the Silver City Visitor Center’s website to check out other fun events they host throughout the year.

  • Hike at Boston Hill: I highly recommend hiking at Boston Hill if you’re in Silver City and looking to explore the outdoors. • Catwalk Recreation Area: this hike was a highlight of our trip, and our kids are still raving about it. This natural gem promises an exciting adventure for outdoor enthusiasts and families alike. Following the path of Whitewater Creek, the trail winds through a narrow canyon adorned with rugged cliffs and unique rock formations, offering breathtaking views at every turn. Originally constructed for miners, the Catwalk now features suspended walkways and bridges that traverse the creek, providing both an exhilarating and peaceful hiking experience. The area’s rich history and natural beauty make it a must-visit for anyone exploring Silver City. Be prepared with cash for the entrance fee, and bring water shoes and a swimsuit as there are water crossings and swim holes along the way. My kids even likened it to the famous Narrows in Zion National Park—it’s truly an amazing hike that deserves a spot on every traveler’s bucket list!

The gallery features contemporary art by local artists and hosts a variety of alternative events and performance venues, including monthly art openings that keep visitors engaged with the current art scene. One of the highlights of our visit was participating in the ‘Art on a Stick’ art assemblage, a fun activity priced at just $15. It was incredibly enjoyable to spend time creating our own unique pieces with the freedom to let our imaginations run wild. The owner was incredibly supportive, offering guidance and extra tools whenever needed. A Space Gallery offers an inspiring and welcoming space that’s well worth a visit.
