Interlaken Resort Trail near Twin Lakes

This is a small parking area for the Colorado Trail that will take you to the Interlaken Trail

Distance: 4.7 miles (Out-and-Back Trail)
Elevation: 9,230-ft. at Trailhead – Maximum elevation – 9,272-ft.
Elevation Gain: 42-ft.
Duration: It took us about 1.5 hour one way with two kids
Directions: Take Colorado Highway 24 South from Leadville, then turn right onto Colorado 82 towards Aspen. The road to the trailhead is County Road 25 which is off Hwy 82. County Road 25 is dirt and rock road, and it is only about a mile to a small parking area for the Colorado Trail. The hike to Historic Interlaken Resort is about 4.7mi total and is on part of the Colorado trail.

Wonderful, easy trail to the Historic Interlaken Resort that features the lake and the awesome Old Cabin with the Interlaken Resort at the end. This trip can be done all year round as a family or solo hike, mountaing biking , or a snowshoe adventure.

You can enter one building, the Dexter house. It is the log structure with a mansard roof, dormer house and a cupola, that sits in a meadow with wonderful views of the lake and surrounding peaks. What a reward that the house is open and you can go inside to walk around and see up close the inside of an elegant walnut wood paneling and floors. Also, make sure you climb the steps to the second floor rooms and then ascend the steep, narrow stairs to the cupola. The views of the lake is amazing from there. Next to the house there are markers that explain the history of these buildings, so for the history gurus, it is very interesting.

This is a good hike for families and someone who is looking for an easy half day walk. We went on this hike mutliple times and there was barely any traffic there. I like this hike as it has plenty of natural shade and the breeze from the lake helps to keep you cool.
